What Claude Can and Can’t Do for Your Real Estate Business

If you’ve been hearing “Claude” thrown around alongside ChatGPT and other AI tools and wondering whether it’s actually worth your time, you’re asking the right question. The honest answer is: it depends what you’re trying to do with it. Claude is genuinely useful for a real estate business in some specific ways, and it will actively let you down if you lean on it for things it was never built to do. Here’s a clear-eyed breakdown.

What Claude Is Good At

Drafting, not deciding. Claude is strong at turning your rough notes into polished text. A listing description from a bullet-point list of features, a client email from “need to tell them the inspection came back with issues,” a social caption from a photo description. It saves the blank-page time. It should never be the one deciding what to say to a client about something that actually matters to them.

Summarizing and organizing information. If you paste in comps, inspection reports, or a batch of client questions, Claude is good at pulling out the key points and organizing them into something readable, like a market snapshot, a prepped list of talking points for a listing presentation, a cleaned-up summary of a long email thread. It’s a research assistant, not a research source.

Adapting tone and length. The same update can come out as a two-line text, a warm paragraph email, or a longer newsletter blurb. If you already know what you want to say but not how to say it for a given channel, this is where Claude earns its keep.

Brainstorming when you’re stuck. Need ten post ideas, five ways to describe a small kitchen without saying “cozy,” or a different angle for a listing that’s been sitting? This is a fast way to get unstuck, even if you only use one idea out of ten.

What Claude Can't Do

It doesn’t know your local market in real time. Claude doesn’t have live access to your MLS, current listings, or this week’s comps unless you give it that information directly. Anything it says about “the market” without you supplying current data should be treated as a starting point to verify, not a fact to repeat to a client.

It can’t verify facts about a specific property. Square footage, lot lines, permit history, HOA rules, Claude can help you write about these once you’ve confirmed them, but it has no way to check them for you. Treat it as a writing tool, not a source of truth.

It doesn’t carry legal or fiduciary responsibility. Contract language, disclosure requirements, and fair housing compliance are areas where a mistake has real consequences. Claude can help you draft or clarify language, but it isn’t a substitute for your broker, your legal counsel, or your own knowledge of state-specific requirements. Always have a human review anything client-facing or contract-adjacent before it goes out.

It can’t replace the relationship. This is the big one. Clients hire agents for judgment, local knowledge, and trust, not for a well-written paragraph. AI-drafted messages that go out untouched, especially around sensitive moments like a deal falling through or a tough negotiation, tend to feel exactly as generic as they are. The agents who use AI well are the ones who still put their own voice and judgment into everything before it goes out.

The Practical Rule of Thumb

Use Claude for the first draft, never the final word. It’s excellent at getting you from a blank page to something 80% done: the listing copy, the email skeleton, the market summary structure. The last 20%, the part that requires knowing your client, your market, and your legal obligations, is still on you.

That’s exactly the balance PorchLyte is designed around. AI tools built into your workflow for the drafting and busywork, so you can spend your time on the parts of the job that actually require you.
